Char: Mom's Night Out!

Recently a couple of Mom's and I were looking for a place to dine on a Mom's night out, and Char (2 S Water St, Greenwich, CT 06830)  was the perfect place for this outing!

First off, a Mom's night out is in major need of cocktails! Char's cocktail menu was elaborate and a mixology connoisseur's dream. Of course, I forgot to take a photo of my cocktail because I couldn't wait to take my first sip. I ordered the Char, which was made of bourbon, blackberry puree, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup. It was quite delicious and definitely packed a punch, as I mentioned to my friends that I felt buzzed after the first one. My only complaint here was that when we went to order, I was debating on ordering the Char and the mojito that was on the menu, and the waiter mentioned that it was very busy that evening and that the bartender was slammed and wouldn't take the appropriate time to muddle the mojito to make it amazing. I appreciated the advice to not order the mojito, but thought badly of the bartender to not make each drink exceptionally...  Oh well, since I loved my drink anyway! Also, frustratingly, our waiter for some reason could not remember my friend's drink after asking her twice what she ordered! It eventually made its way to the table...

Now onto the food!

We ordered 4 appetizers and one entree to split 3 ways, which is always my favorite way of ordering! Sampling a lot of the menu is always the best way to dine. The waiter also was very great in suggesting when to have each item come out of the kitchen so that we weren't overwhelmed, which I appreciated.

Chicken and Lemongrass Dumplings
We started with the Chicken and Lemongrass Dumplings which were definitely delicious, but I didn't taste the lemongrass that much. To be fair, I am a little too obsessed with lemongrass and could probably bathe my food in it and be very happy with the flavor. Kind of became obsessed with Lemongrass after going to Thailand.
The dumplings had a perfect crisp to them, and had a great flavor, and everyone at the table enjoyed them!

Chilli Garlic Crispy Shrimp
The Chilli Garlic Crispy Shrimp were my favorite dish! Shrimp is my favorite food group, but these happened to have everything going right for them anyway!  They were crispy, spicy, and refreshing with the green onion. Often, this type of spicy shrimp dish feels heavy, creamy and overly salty. This shrimp dish was far from that. I could have probably eaten the whole dish myself.

Char Grilled Octopus
The grilled octopus was cooked to perfection and served atop Farro, watercress, and tomatoes. The farro added a nice textural aspect to each bite and the garlic aioli drizzle had so much flavor! There was not a bite left on this plate!

Lamb Meatball with Orzo
The lamb meatballs were so flavorful! They were topped with ricotta and served over orzo and asparagus. The meat was very tender and moist. Sometimes I find lamb meatballs to be very dry, and this was far from that!

Fresh Pappardelle with Wild Boar Ragu
Pappardelle and wild boar ragu is one of those dishes that I feel like is always amazing. Or at least I have never had a bad one... So that being said, this was amazing! The pasta tasted homemade, the sauce was very flavorful, and the meat was tender and moist. There was supposed to be mint chimichurri in it as well, which I did not really notice, but it was very good nonetheless!

We also had a cookie dessert of some sort. I did not order it, so not sure what it was! But it was amazing! Very chocolatey!

All in all, I would definitely return, as this was actually my second time dining here :)

I definitely think this is one of those datey or special occasion places. The ambiance is very romantic and vintage feeling. Every table in the whole restaurant was taken. They also have a party room, which is definitely something to consider for a future birthday or something!
