Wolfgang's Steakhouse: One of the Best Steakhouses in NYC! An absolute must try!

My parents were in town, and they wanted the true steakhouse experience since they live in the part of the country where steakhouses are not like NYC steakhouses. I researched all the top places and finally we selected Wolfgang's Steakhouse (200 East 54th St.), which my cousin rated very highly. There were a few location options, but we opted to stay close to home, and visited the newest location, which is in midtown.
I was so excited to go to the steakhouse created by Wolfgang Zweiner, since he had been head waiter at Peter Luger's for years, and I have always wanted to go to Peter Luger's! I figured Wolfgang must know how to make a great steak from all his experience!
Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess and escorted to our table. The ambiance was just as a I expected for a New York steakhouse. I was very pleased to see the wine cellar upon entering. It was made of clear glass and we were able to see so many bottles on display.
I had originally wanted to eat at the Park Ave. location to experience the arched ceilings that the location is famous for, but I was still very happy with the ambiance of this location.
Since, my boyfriend has a weakness for California Cabernet, we were very excited by the wine selection since it was filled with all of his favorites. Our waiter was extremely helpful in selecting a wine for our table and encouraged us to order the magnum size so we would have enough for all seven of us. Definitely a great idea, and I have never ordered a magnum at a restaurant before, so I would have never even thought of this. He was even willing to offer a slight discount to us if we ordered the magnum, which was I thought was extremely hospitable.

For appetizers, everyone ordered a variety of salads, which looked amazing with chunks of bacon slices in them. Sadly I did not get a picture of them.

Crackers, horse radish, and hot sauce for our raw bar appetizer, nice display!
My boyfriend and I ordered the Jump Lump Crabmeat Cocktail, which was amazing! It came with a cute platter of crackers, horseradish, and hot sauce. Even though we didn't use the sauces and found them unnecessary, the presentation was still spectacular.
The crabmeat cocktail had so many chunks of crabmeat that I didn't even get upset when others at the table wanted to have a taste, as there was plenty to go around! You could tell the crab was extremely fresh, and had such an amazing taste! Each piece was from the claw of the crab so each bite was super meaty :)
Jumbo Lump Crab Meat Cocktail...MMM
Everyone at the table shared a porterhouse for two with a partner. My boyfriend and I ordered ours rare, my parents ordered medium rare, and my aunt and uncle ordered half well, and half medium. I had never seen a steakhouse be willing to cook half of the porterhouse one way, and the other half another way. They were extremely accommodating, I was very impressed.
When the porterhouses came to the table, each plate had a plastic marker on it in the shape of a cow in the color pertaining to their level of cooking. Ours had a red cow in it meaning "rare", which I thought was so cute, and also very ingenious There was no confusion on which plate belonged to which couple because of this marking system!
The meat was sizzling and oozing with juices, I couldn't wait to dive right in. The meat was cooked just the way we wanted, and had a very beautiful pink center. MMMM! It was extremely tender and full of flavor. It wasn't spiced up, which I liked because I could taste the true flavor of the meat, which you could tell was quality. It was more than enough for two people, and we had to bring leftovers home.

For sides we ordered sautéed mushrooms, creamed spinach, and steak fries. The waiter was helpful in determining the right number to order for a table of 7, and he definitely geared us in the right direction.  I could have had more of the mushrooms though, since they were just that amazing. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly with garlic, butter, and were mouthwatering good.
Sauteed Mushrooms
The creamed spinach I have to say was the best creamed spinach I have ever had. It was buttery and delicious. It was packed with tons of flavor and wasn't overly seasoned bringing out the true flavors of the cream and the spinach. I could have had more of the creamed spinach as well!
Creamed Spinach

My plate of a little bit of everything!
The steak fries were not as thick as most steak fries, which was disappointing. However, they tasted amazing with the perfect level of salt and had a nice crunch to them. I wish they were a little thicker, but that's ok, the taste made up for it!
Steak Fries
For dessert, we ordered two desserts for the table to share. The key lime pie was delicious, but not the best key lime pie I have ever had. It was more creamy in flavor than citrusy. I was hoping for a more refreshing Key lime flavor like my grandma used to make. It was served with  homemade cream, which you could tell was made fresh and was so rich and creamy! I could eat the cream for dessert any day.

Key Lime Pie
The cheesecake was the best cheesecake anyone at the table has ever had. It was so creamy, and so divine with the edge just being slightly crispy. With each bite, you could taste the tart cream cheese flavor. It was definitely made fresh, and also served with homemade whipped cream. MMM.

Overall, we were all pleased with our experience. My parents loved their first true New York steakhouse experience. My boyfriend even said he loved it, and he is very picky about his steakhouses, being that he has been to most NY steakhouses. He said that it was in line with the top steakhouses in the area, and that it was right below Peter Luger's and BLT Steak.
I would definitely return to Wolfgang's Steakhouse and definitely will recommend this place to anyone! I was very happy with my experience, and love that there are several locations, so that no matter what area of Manhattan you are in, there is one close by.
