Nick & Toni's Cafe - A Hidden Treasure

My mom and I stumbled upon Nick & Toni's Cafe (100 West 67th St., between Broadway and Columbus) while searching for some other Italian place that we found on Yelp that was near where we were shopping. Because it was a frigidly cold and windy evening, we were happy to find this little hidden gem on the way to the other place because we wanted to get inside to a warm place as soon as possible!

After looking it up online after having a divine dining experience, I realized it was an offshoot of a well known East Hampton Restaurant. This place had a very warm and welcoming flare to it. The host at the front welcomed us in with open arms.

Anson Mills Creamy Polenta,Wild Boar Ragu, Soft Knoll Crest Farm Egg

After much debate, and almost ordering something off the specials menu, we settled on an appetizer and a meal to share. The waiter actually told us the meals on the menu that we were debating over were better than the meal on the specials menu.

I must say that the Anson Mills Creamy Polenta was a huge portion for an appetizer! It was so creamy and full of flavor. There was also so much meat in this sauce that it was almost too good to be true! While writing this review, I am getting hungry thinking about it, and want to go back right now for more! This is one of those dishes that you don't just want a "taste" of, you want to just keep on eating it until its done, and then you want seconds.

Berkshire Pork Chop,Roasted Butternut Squash, Prospect Hill Farm Apples, Vincotto
(half of a portion, since it was split)

The Berkshire Pork Chop was equally as delicious as the amazing appetizer. The waiter had the kitchen split our meal in the kitchen without us even asking him to. I thought that was really nice and showed us that this place really cares about the happiness of their patrons. By the portion that was on each of our plates, I can't imagine how big this entree would be in full size for one person! It was apparent that the pork was cooked to perfection by the way is just melted off the bones. It was definitely full of flavor and extremely tender. There was not a dry bite in sight. Also, the butternut squash that was mixed with rice and sat under the pork chop added a delicious sweet flavor to the meal.

We left dinner completely satisfied and extremely happy for stumbling upon this place. I would highly suggest this place. The other perk is, it's extremely close to Lincoln Center if you want to pop in here for a pre-theater or pre-fashion show dinner. There is also a wood burning oven for all you pizza lovers out there!
